[ Oh my god give him a minute to untangle himself from the mass of obnoxious teenage boy who has his feet all in his face. One leg out of the way, then the next and he holds them in the metal hand just in case he gets kicky. ]

[ Pidge would murder him if they got kicked in the face, that's for sure. He'd like to avoid all murder attempts if at all possible. ]

Twenty-three. [ It feels like he was captive longer, but he'd checked the calendars. It wasn't for years, no matter how long it felt. ]

[Lance is remarkably non-flaily at the moment, busy fistpumping the air in his triumph and consequently sliiiiiding off the couch Shiro had been innocently sitting in. So, y'know, keep a good grip on those feet if you don't want him to fall and hit his head. It's like holding a six-foot-tall baby.]

Hah! I gotcha! Lance is triumphant once again, and I was totally right about-- wait, you're only twenty-three?

[He'll sag in disappointment, sliding even more.] Aw, I was wrong.

[ Dad of the year deserves a million medals because he realizes it a moment later that Lance is dangerously close to sliding off the couch. He moves quickly and hooks his hand into Lance's front, tugging him up and dumping him against the couch so there's no danger of him flopping onto the ground. ]

Did you all really think I was 30?

[ His nose wrinkles a bit when he pulls a face in response to that. He doesn't think he's that bad but maybe-? Then again, he supposes he is the one constantly trying to get them back on track or away from being distracted. ]

You face be careful. [Fortunately Lance is mostly legs and arms, so he's easy to drag around. Sort of like those boneless cats. He'll grouch over at Shiro, still mad that his theory was disproved.]

Eh, we had a bet going. I said 30, Pidge said early 20's, Hunk thought you were maybe an ageless space god and Keith said "this is stupid".

[ Well, if Lance is settled then Shiro settles back into the couch as gracefully as he can manage, Lance's legs splayed over his lap. After a beat of hesitation, he drops his arms over them, partially to prevent kicking and partially due to not having anywhere else to put them. ]

Sounds about right. Though out here, I'm not so sure how much it matters.

[ Given that in space it's not like every system runs like Earth's so the days are -- strange. Especially given all the suns and variations in what makes a 'day.' ]

[Lance gives a horrified gasp, kicking his feet a little -- not much because there's a robot arm over them, wow, when did that happen -- and scowling at Shiro.]

It totally matters, dude! If you're only 23, then we've still got your 24th and 25th birthdays to plan! Those ones are super important, Shiro.

[ Those legs get a warning look. ]

[ Shiro huffs out a laugh, leaning back into the arm of the couch. His legs stretch out on the ground, shoes on, laced precisely like he measured to make sure they'd be even. ]

I guess we should do something about birthdays, somehow, huh?

[ He...hadn't really considered it, but it was bad enough being away from home for a few weeks, a few months. Not having any pieces of home - even something as simple as a birthday party, that was a lot. Maybe they could figure something out while he neatly avoids answering the question. ]

[Gonna wiggle even more, just because he can, you can't tame him, he's a wild animal.]

Well, those are the next two, so those are the one's we need to start planning for. I'm a birthday expert, man, there was one like every week in my house growing up, and we went all-out for every single one.

[Groaning and waving his feet around as threateningly as he can.] That wasn't an answer! You better tell me or I'll take drastic measures, like....I'll ask Pidge to find out. Pidge'll hack your BRAIN.

[ Oh my GOD Lance, he's going to sit on them if you're not careful. All he does at this point is keep his metal arm braced over them near the ankle so they don't get too close to his head. ]

We'll ask everyone their birthdays during breakfast. So we can make sure everyone gets a party.

[ Even his, grudgingly. ]

[Well, Lance will be satisfied and also brag about it for weeks. Have fun with that. Also the boot-pat gets some contented foot-wiggles. He's like a very large weird cat.]

Hey, I'm okay, I got crazy good birthdays all growing up. But what are we gonna do for Pidge, who's...y'know. Missing family and stuff. Or Hunk, who's gonna wanna help with everything? Or Keith who probably doesn't even have a birthday, because he was born under a rock in the desert?

Or you, who won't even tell me when your birthday is?

Hunk can still help with everything, and I know Keith has a birthday. Pidge can probably dig it up from old Garrison files. I know they have to have some way to access that if they don't have it already.

[ It seems like a thing Pidge would do. Shiro sighs, fingers beating an idle rhythm out onto Lance's boot. ]

Pidge can still have a birthday party. We might not be their brother or dad, but we're still a team.

[ His head tips back against the couch and he frowns at the ceiling, wondering if Lance'd believe him if he said he didn't remember it so he could get out of them planning something. ]
